Go! More Than a Game

1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize

After nine weeks studying Go, practicing Go and solving problems, students at Dixon Elementary School finished up the 2011 Spring Semester with a knock-out tournament. Everyone who participated received a copy of The Way to Go and the top three players: 1st-Liam, 2nd-Brooklyn and 3rd-Emmett received a copy of Peter Shotwell’s Go! More Than a Game. Peter’s book was chosen as an excellent basis for building skills as well as providing concise discussions on Go history and culture. The awards were presented at the school’s Awards Day, May 29th, attended by students, teachers and parents.

The class was run by Santa Fe Go Club member Robert Cordingley and we are much indebted to the school librarian, Ms. Maggie Durham for championing Go in the school’s art program.  Thanks also go to the school staff for their support, particularly Head Teacher Ms. Kiva Duckworth-Moulton and the AGF for their help with equipment and materials.

‘Hikaru’ is now in our Club Library

Hikaru no Go Manga Series

Recently, we have been given a brand new set of the Hikaru no Go manga series, volumes 1-23.  These issues along with other publications in our club library are available to paid-up club members to borrow.  Since we have no adequate space to store these at the club (St. John’s) they are distributed among some of our club members.

If you are a member and are ready to check out a book you may do so online after logging in to GoClubsOnline. Send us an email to info@santafegoclub.org reflecting your request and we will bring the publication to our next regular game meet that you can attend.

If you are not yet a member please email us for details or see our Membership page.

St. John’s Bookstore Go Books

If you are ready to study, the bookstore at St. John’s College carries a good selection of books in English and in Japanese. The folks at the bookstore have made available a list of their go materials for you to peruse. See Learn More.

The bookstore carries a few items of Go Equipment at reasonable prices but you may be interested in some of the Japanese language publications that may be out of print and perhaps a collector’s item too.
